Where to Read Manhua Online in 2026
Manhua — Chinese comics — produce more chapters per week than any English publisher can license. That is why finding a series legally in English feels harder than it should, and why it got harder still when Bilibili Comics shut down its international service on February 29, 2024, taking hundreds of translated titles offline.
This guide ranks where manhua actually lives in 2026: which platforms are licensed, how much you can read without paying, and what to do when a series has no English release at all.
What Counts as Manhua
Manhua (漫画) are comics from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Most modern ones are full color and built as a vertical scroll for phones, the same format as Korean webtoons. Their signature genres:
- Cultivation and xianxia — mortals training toward immortality: Apotheosis, Tales of Demons and Gods
- System and apocalypse — game-like progression in a broken world
- Wuxia — martial-arts heroes and sect politics
- CEO and palace romance — the genre that dominates the mobile apps
- Danmei — boys’ love, the category behind Heaven Official’s Blessing
Many start as web novels, which is why the same story often exists as a novel, a manhua and a donghua (Chinese animation).
How We Ranked These Platforms
Four criteria: manhua catalog (actual Chinese titles, not manhwa with a few mixed in), free-tier generosity, update speed and translation quality, and licensing — whether the creators get paid, which is also what keeps a platform from vanishing. Every link is re-checked weekly; the date at the top of this page is the last check.
The Best Places to Read Manhua
1. INKR — the biggest licensed catalog in English
INKR (comics.inkr.com) is the closest thing to a Bilibili Comics replacement. Its manhua section runs cultivation and martial-arts heavyweights — Apotheosis, Tales of Demons and Gods, Apocalypse Online — with same-day simulpub chapters and daily updates, all officially licensed. Revenue is shared with creators and publishers.
Free: opening chapters on most series; subscription and coins unlock the rest. Best for: cultivation readers who want an organized, official library.
2. Comikey — the most generous free tier
Comikey (comikey.com) partners directly with Chinese studios including Kuaikan Comics, Manhuatai and Kanman, alongside Japanese publishers. Its hook: you can read nearly the entire catalog free by watching ads, or pay to skip them.
Free: most chapters, ad-supported. Best for: reading legally without spending anything.
3. WebComics — romance and CEO drama
WebComics (webcomicsapp.com) lists more than 8,000 titles “in official partnership with the respective publishers, creators and artists”. The catalog leans hard into romance: contract marriages, hidden heiresses, billionaire CEOs. Daily free-reading perks and offline downloads.
Free: daily free unlocks; coins for the rest. Best for: modern romance and short, bingeable drama.
4. Webnovel — when you want to read ahead
Webnovel (webnovel.com) publishes official comic adaptations of the novels it hosts. That matters for one reason: when the manhua catches up to its source, you can keep going in the novel instead of waiting months. Early chapters are free; later ones unlock with coins or free Fast Passes from daily check-ins.
Free: early chapters plus daily Fast Passes. Best for: readers who refuse to wait.
5. MangaToon — short-form on mobile
MangaToon (mangatoon.mobi) is mobile-first with a strong manhua section, focused on short romance and drama. Coin system with free opening episodes. A good second stop when WebComics does not carry a title.
6. WEBTOON — if you are already there
WEBTOON (webtoons.com) is mostly Korean, but it carries translated Chinese series too and was one of the few large platforms still publishing manhua in English after Bilibili’s exit. Most episodes are free forever.
7. The original Chinese platforms — read at the source
If you read Chinese, or use a browser translator, the source platforms are legal, free for many chapters, and years ahead of any English release:
- Kuaikan Manhua (kuaikanmanhua.com) — mobile-first, strong in romance
- Tencent Comics (ac.qq.com) — the largest catalog, action and fantasy heavy
- Bilibili Manga (manga.bilibili.com) — still running in Chinese; only the English service closed

What Happened to Bilibili Comics
On January 24, 2024, Bilibili Comics told international users that its English service would close, citing “a change in our strategic direction”. Registrations and coin top-ups were disabled, and on February 29, 2024 the site and app went dark.
Some of its titles have been re-licensed since. Heaven Official’s Blessing now appears in English as print and digital volumes from Inklore. If you are chasing an old Bilibili series, search INKR and Comikey first, then check whether a print edition exists.
A Word on Unofficial Sites
Aggregators that host full manhua without a license are easy to find and we are not going to link them. Beyond the ethics — the artists and translators get nothing — they carry heavy ad payloads, disappear without warning, and take your reading history with them. Every platform above pays someone to keep the lights on.
FAQ
Where can I read manhua legally for free?
Comikey lets you read most of its catalog free by watching ads. INKR, Webnovel and MangaToon offer free opening chapters, and WebComics gives daily free unlocks. The original Chinese platforms — Kuaikan, Tencent Comics, Bilibili Manga — are also legal and free for many chapters, in Chinese.
Is Bilibili Comics coming back?
The English service closed on February 29, 2024 and has not returned. Bilibili’s Chinese comics platform is still running.
What is the difference between manhua, manhwa and manga?
Manhua are Chinese, manhwa are Korean, manga are Japanese. Manhua and manhwa are usually full color and scroll vertically; manga is typically black and white in page format. Manhua lean toward cultivation, xianxia and wuxia; manhwa toward hunters, regression and romance fantasy.
Why is my favorite manhua stuck in English?
Licensing, lettering and quality review take months, and Chinese publishers release faster than English platforms can absorb. The gap between the Chinese chapter count and the English one commonly runs into the hundreds.
Can I watch the animated version?
Often, yes — most big manhua get a donghua adaptation. See our guide to watching donghua legally.
